Miami Hurricanes vs Oklahoma Sooners

miami hurricanes Miami Hurricanes - All the respectable schools play respectable schedules as much as they can. Most football schedules are decided years in advance and that can make it difficult to get good non-conference match-ups. There always seems to be room to fudge the schedule though. OU traded 2 games against never-gonna-be-great teams for games against more respectable teams last year. This year, Miami travels to Norman Oklahoma and will play Texas A&M at home. Not exactly a cake walk, but should certainly tune them up for play in the ACC, a conference that they've never won and that everyone expected them to dominate when they entered. However, Miami football over the last few years has inspired some to refer to them as the Hurri-can'ts. Well ok, that was just me, but I think it may catch on if they can't fix their offense.

Miami will take on the Sooners having who some say has a very good secondary and a respectable offense with a new QB, but in bad scenery. In fact, the only thing uglier than Oklahoma scenery, (who's name is an indian name meaning "red home", in reference to the red dirt & clay you find there.)  lately has been the Miami offense. Miami's offense has been bad the last 3 years and to fix the problem, Miami hired a first year, defensive head coach. That doesn't exactly inspire confidence with the fans. No fear though, if the offense is bad, leave it to Hurricane football players to start a fight to distract everyone from the score. In fact, the Hurrican'ts fight about as much as the dogs owned by Michael Vick .

miami Personally, I've been sore at Miami football since 1984 when Miami last visited Oklahoma. Miami came into Norman and pitched a 12-0 shutout against the favored Sooners. They won by knocking Troy Aikman out of the game. They broke his ankle and he was done for the year. (That forced OU to switch back to the wishbone and Aikman transfered to UCLA) Combine that with all the notoriously bad behaviour  and it's easy to see why Miami won't exactly become America's team anytime soon. Certainly not in Oklahoma. If I can remember that game, so will thousands of other Sooner fans. OU fans will be higher than a Haight street hippy. Crazier than an outhouse rat come game day. OU fans will demand a blow out to give them some kind of satisfaction over never having beaten Miami. Can they get it? We shall see.

The early line on the game has OU favored by 7. Since this is still an early game, expect OU to try to establish the run, since the pass will be somewhat shaky this early in the season. If Miami can stuff the run and force OU to throw something more than quick outs, and get 2 turnovers, this game could become tight.
