This is my own record of the Barry Bonds saga. I hope it's available on the Internet for all time so that everyone in the generations to come can understand quickly what the home run king and the steroid era has done for professional baseball. Barry Bonds gains the home run record in August of 2007 and many people aren't ok with it. After admitting to using something from the BALCO laboratory called the 'cream and the clear', every hit off Bond's bat is greeted with a jeer and a chat of "asterisk!" from the home crowd. This homemade ointment he rubbed on himself. Barry's only defense of this is him saying that he didn't know what he was using. He thought it was flaxseed oil he says.

I've taken flaxseed oil myself. You don't rub it on, you swallow it. Having the home run record be tainted like this is as annoying as a humping puppy with 2 peters. It just feels dirty. But what can you do when the home run king plays in a professional league where the game itself takes a back seat to the entertainment value. And since baseball already suffers from "ball 1, ball 2, foul ball, foul ball, ball 3, foul ball, foul ball, strike out and .279 batting averages, MLB cannot really afford to see anymore boredom to what is commonly referred to as a 'talking sport'. The longer I live, the more I see that all things come down to money. If fans didn't buy the tickets, the players wouldn't be millionaires and non-fans wouldn't be asked to pay for ball parks. But I've gotten off track. So where's the BALCO case now? Looks like the BALCO portion is done . Two writers who were leaked testimony about the case wrote a book called "Game of Shadows". In it, they speak a lot about the abuse that goes on in the sport. The government tried to force them to turn over their informant for prosecution, but they refused and faced time in prison, until a former lawyer for BALCO admitted that he was that informant. So the only thing left were Barry Bonds is concerned is MLB's own investigation into steroid abuse. Since we discussed earlier that baseball is a game about entertainment, it's doubtful that MLB will ever shoot itself in the foot by erasing all of Bonds home runs during this steroid era. You'd think that the commissioner would value the integrity of the game though. No one really wants MLB to resemble professional wrestling. Except the haters.
